Derbyshire police warn vehicle owners to ‘be alert’

Derbyshire police are urging residents to ‘be alert’ following a number of reports of someone trying car door handles to see if they are open.

There have been reports of this suspicious activity during the night and in the early hours during the past week in the Belper area.

A Derbyshire Constabulary spokesperson said: “We are urging people to always check that their vehicles are locked and to never leave valuables in cars or vans, especially in sight.

“Patrols are ongoing during these times and we encourage anyone who notices any suspicious activity to report it to us.”
