The force’s armed response unit said the weapons were legally owned.
A spokesperson tweeted: “Making safe of firearms that come into police hands is one of our roles. It’s very unusual for us to take in over 140 firearms though, so this has taken us some time to work through.
"We can’t comment why, but these were lawfully held. Now safe with us and safely stored. #DontAsk”
