"I was keen to see how the project will be implemented and find out how this extra Government funding will make life better – and safer – for local people.

"Safer Streets is an exciting scheme that will not only reduce the risk of crime but will also allow people to feel more confident about safety in their area. I am looking forward to seeing the project take shape."

The PCC then met Andy Bond, Chesterfield Borough Council's town centre manager, at the Town Hall where she visited the CCTV control room to see the current surveillance arrangements.

"The additional CCTV cameras will help to deter crime and identify offenders," she said.

"This is what people have told me they want to see happening and I'm pleased that Chesterfield is benefiting."

"It has been useful to hear the views of people in various roles for different organisations."
