Luke Presswood was caught with a small quantity of cocaine and cannabis when the vehicle he was travelling in as a passenger when it was stopped by police, Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court was told on Tuesday, March 3.

The 21-year-old, of St Lawrence Avenue, Bolsover, immediately volunteered the drugs and told officers he had attended a music festival in the weeks prior to the stop, on December 9, said Becky Allsop, prosecuting.

“There was a smell of cannabis in the car and a small amount of cocaine was found on him. He stated that both the drugs were his and that he knew he shouldn’t have them on him.”

Mitigating, Karl Meakin said that Presswood was not a regular drug-user and had recently passed a drugs test at the hospital he works at.

“These are very small amounts of each drug,” he said. “They were remnants left over from a music festival he had attended a few weeks before. He works as a maintenance assistant at King’s Mill Hospital. He recently had a drugs test there and it came back clean. He doesn’t have a drug problem. It was for recreational use at a music festival.”

Presswood, who admitted possession of Class A and Class B drugs, was fined £300 for the cocaine, and was given a 12-month conditional discharge for the cannabis. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
