Ryan Littlewood, 27, of Chestnut Drive, Creswell, has also been banned from the roads for more than two years after pleading guilty to drink-driving and dangerous driving at Nottingham Crown Court.

The charges relate to an incident on Gateford Road, Worksop, in the early hours of March 1 when Littlewood drove at speed in his Land Rover on the wrong side of the road.

The car hit a pedestrian, throwing him up in the air and over the bonnet before he landed heavily on the ground, causing non-life threatening injuries to his back and hip.

Littlewood did not stop and was later detained at his house where he gave a positive reading, which was nearly two-times over the limit.

He had been drinking rum and cokes and a pint of Guinness over several hours at a nearby hotel and had driven friends home before the collision and claimed he did not think he had hit anyone – so carried on his journey home.

PC Matthew Jones, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Littlewood is very lucky that nobody was seriously hurt or killed, including himself.

“He has been jailed for two months and disqualified for driving for 26 months.

“He was almost twice over the legal limit and all his senses would have been impaired, which caused his driving to be as dangerous as it was.

“Just one drink or drug-driver on our roads is one too many and our message is simple: drink and drug-drivers will not be tolerated on our county’s roads.

“Driving while under the influence of drink or drugs is always a significant danger.

“This is yet another case that demonstrates how seriously Nottinghamshire Police takes the issue and how we will take positive action to hold those responsible to account,” he added.

Anyone with information about a drink-driver should call police on 101.
