Jodie Carroll, 34, attacked her girlfriend when she taunted Carroll by saying she “should have chosen her ex-partner instead of the defendant”.

Chesterfield Magistrates Court heard Carroll grabbed her victim by both hands and forced her to the floor during the March 20 incident.

As Carroll’s now ex-partner tried to call her sister and while she was on the ground, the defendant kicked her victim to the head multiple times.

Then during a struggle for the mobile phone as the victim started to scream Carroll placed her hands around her throat and her hand over her mouth - causing the victim to bite her finger.

Prosecutor Dan Church described how after “kicking out” and escaping Carroll her victim began knocking on doors - unsuccessfully seeking help.

The incident came to an end when friends arrived and put a stop to the attack.

Mr Church told how the violent scenes unfolded after police ejected the pair from a Mansfield house party “they should not have been attending” “due to Covid”.

Carroll assaulted her ex when a row developed as she ran into a field and “took her frustrations” out on her partner.

The following day Carroll’s girlfriend was advised to report the assault to police.

Carroll’s solicitor Karl Meakin said “both parties had been drinking” on the night of the incident and “there had been consumption of drugs”.

He added: “It was an argument that spiralled totally out of control - Miss Carroll accepts she needs assistance with anger management and emotional management.

“That’s what has led her to respond so inappropriately - the relationship is very much over and there’s no intention to reconcile.”

Carroll, of Calow Lane, Hasland, admitted criminal damage to the victim’s mobile phone and actual bodily harm.

A magistrate, noting there was “a degree of strangulation”, jailed Carroll for 26 weeks suspended for two years.

She was also made to attend 35 rehabilitation activity sessions and given a two-year restraining order.

Carroll was ordered to pay £150 compensation for the assault and £60 compensation for the mobile phone.
