Chesterfield police issue warning to car owners

Police in Chesterfield have issued safety advice to car owners after several thefts.

Officers are also advising residents with CCTV to check their footage to see if any criminals have been filmed trying car door handles.

A spokesperson for Chesterfield Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “We are receiving a number of reports, particularly around the Walton area, of vehicles either being broken into or being entered due to being insecure and various items being stolen, such as Sat Navs and money.

“These incidents tend to happen overnight in the early hours.

“If you have CCTV, feel free to review it to see if offenders are trying your car door handles as this is an offence in itself.

“If anyone has any footage then please let us know so that we can identify these people.

“Please ensure that you secure your car when you get out of it and also ensure you don't leave valuables clearly on display, particularly wallets with bank cards in.”
