Chesterfield man due in court for swearing at 999 call handler

It is understood Jason Clarke, 49, made the call over a non-urgent matter in the early hours of October 8.

Police allege that while on the phone he became abusive and swore at the call handler a number of times.

They say ‘abusive or offensive won’t be tolerated’.

Sgt Matthew Ladd, of the north investigations team, said: “Our colleagues in contact management perform a difficult role as the vital first point of contact for members of the public who need to report an emergency - as well as those who need to report a crime or issue that doesn’t require an immediate response.

“Behaviour which is abusive or offensive won’t be tolerated.”

Clarke, of New Street, Pilsley, has been charged with malicious communications and is due to appear before magistrates at Chesterfield Justice Centre in November.
