Car seized and Covid fines issued to Luton residents who travelled to Derbyshire for snow pictures

Two Luton residents who drove to Derbyshire to take pictures of the snow have been given Covid fines and left with no way of getting home after breaching lockdown restrictions.

Officers from the Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit stopped the Mitsubushi along the A537 Cat and Fiddle today.

The occupants, who had travelled over 140 miles from Luton, were both hit with fines for breaking the Government’s coronavirus rules.

The car was also seized after officers discovered the driver had no licence or insurance.

Posting on Twitter, Derbyshire RPU said: “A537 Cat and Fiddle. Despite the lockdown, the snow and the attention Derbyshire Police had about our response to #COVID19, the occupants of this Mitsubishi still travelled from Luton to take photos of the snow. No licence or insurance.

"2 COVID tickets and car #Seized #HighPeak.”

People have been told to stay at home during the third national lockdown and are allowed to travel for exercise but are asked to stay local.
