Bus ploughs into tree on South Yorkshire and Derbyshire border

A bus that ploughed into a tree on the border between South Yorkshire and Derbyshire was just one of several incidents in a ‘busy day’ for traffic police on Saturday.

The Roads Policing Unit at South Yorkshire Police said the driver of the bus “lost control” near the Derbyshire border but escaped with “minor injuries”. Further enquiries are ongoing.

In another incident, an elderly man drove into a house in Worsbrough, Barnsley, causing significant damage to the front of the property. Officers said he was “fine” despite the crash.

Elsewhere, an Audi A8 was clocked speeding at 101mph on the M18, while police recorded another car driving at 90mph on the M1.

Officers also recovered a silver Ford Focus from an uninsured driver who admitted she was "still wasted" from the previous night.

A spokesperson posted on Facebook: “We have had a number of drivers chancing their luck (and lives) on the motorway network of South Yorkshire, despite the pretty horrendous weather conditions.”
