A Bolsover man pushed his former partner over a fence after she hit him in the face for talking to one of her children, a court heard.

Christopher Lee Brown had been attending a funeral and wake close to where he had lived with his ex when the incident happened on May 15, Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court was told on Thursday, October 22.

Prosecuting, Anna Pierrepont told the court: “The complainant had gone over to the defendant first and struck him, and if she had not he would not be in court today.

Brown, 32, of North View Street, Bolsover, admitted assault when he appeared before the court.

Mitigating, John Wilford said: “The defendant said that he had been to a funeral and a wake and was required to carry some chairs to the front of the house. He accepts having the conversation with one of her sons.”

Magistrates fined Brown £120 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £34 victim surcharge.
