A BMW was 'written off' after smashing into railings on the side of a busy Chesterfield road.

The crash took place on the A619 West Bars, Derbyshire Roads Policing unit said.

In a tweet, the force posted a photo of the scene of the crash with the light-hearted caption: “Recipe for a written off BMW.”

The post read: “One cup of snow. One heaped teaspoon of right foot. One tyre with no tread. Serve immediately on a metal railing with a side dish of airbags.”
