Cops and park officials tackle Peak District crime

Police are working with Peak Park rangers in a bid to tackle rural crime around Hathersage and Stanage Edge.

PCSO Anthony Boswell from the Hathersage Safer Neighbourhood Team has teamed up with the Peak District National Park Authority to ensure local crime information, appeals and suspicious activity is shared quickly.

Peak Park rangers have signed up to the dedicated Derbyshire Alert scheme to keep up to date with crime and policing issues in the areas they cover.

The free service uses email to let people across the county know about any crimes, suspicious activity, events, public meetings and other issues relating to police.

The partnership has also seen signs put up across the area to act as a deterrent to any potential crimes, and rangers will also be able to contact their local officers if they see anything suspicious.

PCSO Boswell said: “The Derbyshire Alert scheme is aimed at getting messages about crime and suspicious activity out quickly to help tackle issues that really matter to rural residents.

“With Peak Park rangers now signed up to receive updates they will be able to keep updated on areas of interest and ensure their land is protected from criminal activity.

“It will also allow rangers to talk directly to the police, to keep us in the loop on issues and ensure we work together to bring criminals to justice.”

Peak District National Park Authority North-Lees Manager, Rebekah Newman said: “We are highlighting the issues through signage including at Stanage North Lees where Anthony has worked with the Estate warden and the farm tenant to raise awareness.

“Throughout the National Park we have a Ranger Service that is a presence on the ground and rangers are able to reactively report incidents to the police.”
