COLUMN: Cadets enjoy '˜rank swap'

They then get to experience how the adult volunteers keep the unit running, whilst giving the staff the opportunity to relive some cadet memories!

The real aim was to help raise money for Comic Relief, with donations from sponsors such as friends and family, to support the charity that works to end poverty.

This is one of several events throughout the year we take part in, to help raise money for charities, such as the Royal Air Force Association and the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

The evening was fun-filled and interesting as the staff pre-planned tasks and situations, which are dealt with throughout an average parade night.

This involved the cadets running their very own lessons, planning their own bowling night, and carrying out inspections.

There were also a few surprises thrown in to test their quick thinking, as two staff members acted out a serious argument, to see how they managed conflict resolution.

This also helped the cadets understand the commitments the adult volunteers have to make towards the organisation, as their work is done on top of a separate full-time career.

Cadet Corporal Emma Mosley swapped her rank with the commanding officer, adult warrant officer Adam Fowler, to see how she would manage at being at the head of the unit.

She said: “I learned how important his role is on the squadron, it was interesting to see how much has to be done on a single parade night, on top of any unexpected events .

“Although it was really cool getting to boss people around!”

Overall, the fun-filled evening was enjoyable to all and was a fantastic way to support a very important cause.
