Chinese brush art sessions at Hollingwood Hub

Two events dedicated to the art will be held at the Hollingwood Hub and organised by Chesterfield Canal Trust.

On Saturday, March 1, from 10.30am to 12.30pm

The Chesterfield Canal Trust is delighted to be putting on two Chinese Brush Art events at Hollingwood Hub, which is by the canal on Work Road, S43 2JP.

On Saturday 1st March from 10.30 to 12.30 there will be a Chinese Brush Art Taster Session. £5 per person. Just turn up and join in. All materials will be provided. You can take home whatever you have produced and handouts for further practice.

On Saturday 15th March from 10.30 to 3.30, there will be a full day’s course. £45 per person. All materials will be provided. Tea and biscuits will be provided. Bring your own lunch or get it from Nona’s. Booking essential, ring 01246 477569 or email [email protected].

Join expert tutor Nick Summerbell and learn the ancient art of Chinese Brush Painting using beautiful hand-made papers, organic pigments and wonderful flexible brushes to create this sensuous artform.

These courses are ideal for absolute beginners and hesitant learners who want to learn how to create such exquisitely beautiful paintings for themselves.

Nick Summerbell is a professional tutor of Chinese Brush Painting. His interest began when he spent two years in Hong Kong. He spent five years at Goole College studying under the Head of Chinese Studies for Hull College.

He did a six week cultural tour to China in 2002 teaching in schools. He worked with some professional artists including Zhang Yi Fan and Yu Xi Ling. He studied in some Beijing Institutes. He has also studied under Mary Tang, Qu Lei Lei, Kaili Fu, Chi Xial and many others. He is on the paint manufacturer Croma’s Master Teachers list.

He has run courses at many establishments including Derby University, Sheffield University, Goole College, Horncastle College, Rother Valley College, Rufford Arts Centre, Nottingham Castle Museum, York Museum Trust and Rotherham College of Art and Technology, Saga Cruise ships and Workers Education Association Courses in Rotherham, Chesterfield, Retford and Worksop. He is currently working at HMP Whatton.

He is a member of the National Brush Painters Society, Chairman of South Yorkshire Brush Painters Society and a member of the Society of Asian and Chinese Understanding.
