Pensioners Anne, 81 and Arthur Smedley, 82, of Hucknall Avenue, Ashgate, in the town, were inspired to help the hospice after their friend Dorothy Davidson - who supported the charity - passed away.

This year’s stalls and car boot sales helped raise £5,000 and have brought their grand fundraising total to £70,000 since they first started supporting the hospice.

Mrs Smedley said: “We’re still enjoying ourselves supporting the hospice and we’ve already started collecting goods for this year’s stalls.”

The hospice has dubbed Mrs Smedley the Car Boot Queen.
