Chesterfield welcomes its new mayor

Chesterfield's 377th mayor, Councillor Maureen Davenport, is pictured here with friend and mayoress Liz Archer, taking up her role at the mayor making ceremony.

Coun Davenport, a former teacher, is a Liberal Democrat councillor and has served Brockwell ward since 2007.
She said: “I feel honoured to be mayor of Chesterfield and will carry out the role to the very best of my ability.”
The mayor and mayoress will support two charities during their year - the new Macmillan Cancer Centre at Chesterfield Royal Hospital and the Chesterfield Child Contact Centre.

Residents are invited to attend the civic service at St Mary and All Saints’ Church, the Crooked Spire, tomorrow, Saturday May 13 from 11am.

There will be a civic procession from the Town Hall to the church. Anyone attending the service is asked to be seated by 10.40am before the procession arrives.
