Chesterfield roundabout to partially close this weekend as car park demolition work continues
A Chesterfield roundabout will partially close this weekend as work to demolish the former Saltergate multi-storey car park continues.
As part of the work there will be a partial closure of Holywell Cross (Donut) roundabout in Chesterfield from 7am Sunday 11 March to 7am Monday 12 March.
Councillor Terry Gilby, Chesterfield Borough Council’s cabinet member for economic growth, said: “The demolition work is all going to plan and is on schedule.
“As part of this work it is necessary to close one lane of the Donut roundabout for a day. To minimise disruption for drivers we have planned this for a quieter period of the week.
“The old car park was dated and not fit for purpose and seeing its demolition means that the new 24 hour car park is one step closer to reality.”
Work to demolish the car park began in February and is due to be completed in mid-April.
Once the existing car park has been demolished it will be replaced by a multi-million pound 24 hour car park which will serve residents and visitors, as well as the 96 bedroom Premier Inn hotel, restaurants and fitness centre at the former Co-op department store, which is currently being built as part of the Chesterfield Borough Council-led Northern Gateway development.
