Chesterfield road being used 'like a race track'

A councillor and residents have voiced concerns about drivers using a Chesterfield road 'like a race track'.

Shortly before 10pm on Saturday, a Subaru car collided with a tree and damaged a lamppost on Loundsley Green Road.

Officers said the driver, a 24-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink or drugs. He has been released under investigation.

Following the incident, councillor Mick Wall, who represents Loundsley Green on Chesterfield Borough Council, said: "I've spoken to a lot of residents who have raised concerns relating to speed on a number of local roads - in particularly Loundsley Green Road.

"This road is often used like a race track - it's scary at times.

"I do think there's a need for tighter enforcement on this stretch of road.

"We also need drivers to be more respectful of local residents and the local environment."

Resident Martin Catchpole added: "The situation is getting diabolical with many using Loundsley Green Road as an unofficial race track - especially at night."
