The fast-food chain was closed for three weeks while a 'folded roof' and new signs were installed at its Alma Leisure Park outlet on Derby Road.

A McDonald’s spokesman said: "The building has adopted a fresher, more contemporary façade."

Chesterfield Borough Council gave McDonald's conditional planning permission for the facelift earlier this year.

McDonald's was founded as a barbecue restaurant by Richard and Maurice McDonald in California in 1940.

Today, it is the world's largest restaurant chain, serving approximately 68 million customers daily in 120 countries across approximately 36,900 outlets.

McDonald's sells, among other things, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, salads, fruit and milkshakes.

The company is the world's second largest private employer with 1.5 million members of staff.
