Prestige Hotels (Midlands) Ltd is calling on the council to reduce business rates for the property over the coming months while it carries out £300,000 of repair and refurbishment work. It was on the market with a rateable value of £124,000.

Huw Bowen, the council's chief executive, said: "We would welcome the opportunity to meet the new owners of Chesterfield Hotel and talk to them to find out more about their future plans for the building."

As previously reported, the five-month-old company bought the historic building on Malkin Street for £900,000 and is currently considering what to do with it.
