Chesterfield grandfather stars on ITV's Ninja Warrior show
A Chesterfield grandfather who took on the '˜toughest obstacle course' on television says he has proved there is no age limit to achieving your goals.
Lud Ramsey, 58, featured on ITV’s Ninja Warrior UK on Saturday night.
The retired firefighter, who works at Spireites Gym, was one of the oldest contestants on the show.
“It looks hard on TV but when you are there it is twice as hard,” he said.
“I did okay. It was a long day but I really enjoyed it.”
Lud, who has two daughters and two grandchildren, applied for the show which received 10,000 applications.
After he was successful in the initial process, he then had to complete six different challenges and have an interview.
“When I found out I had got through I was really happy because at the end of the day you do not know how you have done,” Lud said. “My family were really excited and 27 of them came along in the end.”
But it was not the first time that Lud had found himself in the limelight – for he was on hit TV show Gladiators 25 years ago.
He said: “When I did Gladiators I was petrified and I froze. This time I just got out there and did what I had to do.”
Lud did not make it through to the next round this time but he ‘had a good go’ and did his family proud.
He is now urging others to not let age stop them from achieving their goals.
“It’s important to have goals whatever your age and to not give up,” he added.
