Charity is a top employer – according to majority of staff

The Youth Hostel Association (YHA) came 69th in The Sunday Times top 100 best not–for–profit organisations to work for 2014.

The charity, which has its national office in Dimple Road, Matlock, was given the accolade after workers gave it glowing reviews in an impartial survey carried out by the paper.

Sam Littlechilds, media and policy manager for the YHA, said: “We were really excited to make the list.”

The charity decided to enter the running after receiving the Investors in People Gold Standard last year.

“It’s all completely impartial,” Sam added.

“The Times do a confidential survey, which the staff fill in. It is completely out of our hands.”

Sam said the company has approximately 800 paid employees nationally and between ten to 15 per cent of those are based at the national office – of those staff the majority live in Matlock.

The survey found that 75 per cent of staff enjoy working for the YHA and 83 per cent have fun in their teams.

It was also found that the association has a strong social conscience – as 76 per cent of employees agreed – and 78 per cent of staff said their bosses talked openly and honestly with them.
