Car fire in Wirksworth

Firefighters from Wirksworth were called into action after a nearly-new car burst into flames in the town.

At around 10am on Saturday, June 8, a middle-aged lady driving a Vauxhall Antara in Wirksworth noticed smoke coming from the engine bay. She pulled into Church Street to call for help on her mobile when a passer-by advised her to get out of the vehicle.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue attended within five minutes and extinguished the blaze with two hose-reel jets. Crews left the scene at 10.41am.

The engine was completely destroyed in the blaze.
