Canal body named after formal identification

A body found in a Chesterfield canal has been named as Anthony Maxfield.

A formal identification of the body took place today (Tuesday, December 16).

Derbyshire Police attended the scene and removed the body found at Works Road, Hollingwood, last night after a call from a passer-by at around 7.35pm.

Police say Mr Maxfield, born in 1955, appeared to be on a bike ride at the time and a bicycle was found next to the canal.

Officers say that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident and next of kin have been informed.
