Calow pensioner left puzzled after resurfacing workmen leave area untouched

A Calow pensioner has been left puzzled after workmen carrying out resurfacing work outside his home left an area untouched.

Edwin Rotherham, 78, of Brandene Close, said that in previous years when the pavements on the street had been resurfaced, workers had also re-laid a small area on the edge of residents’ drives.

But these areas have not been done during works which are currently taking place on the road.

“It is a bit silly,” Mr Rotherham told the Derbyshire Times.

“In my opinion they have not done the job properly.

“I do not understand it because I have lived here for 17 years and they have always done it. If it had never been done before then there would be no problem.”

Mr Rotherham said he had spoken to other residents on the road who said that the area on the edge of their drives between the pavement had always been resurfaced and that they could not understand why it had not been done this time.

He said there was no problem with the work being carried out on the pavements but that it looked a bit odd.

“It’s a bit like wearing a brand new coat but with an old pair of trousers,” Mr Rotherham said.

“When I rang the council they said it was part of our property.

“It is very frustrating. I cannot understand it because they have all the equipment so why not just do it?

“It must be down to cost-cutting because I can’t think of any other reason.

“Some of the areas look a mess, others look not too bad.”

A spokesperson for Derbyshire County Council said: “We are resurfacing the pavement on Brandene Close and are only resurfacing the part of the pavement that we are responsible for.”
