Buxton man trashes parents house

A Buxton roofer trashed his parents’ house in a rage after his mum wouldn’t let him borrow her phone.

Connor Derbyshire admitted two counts of criminal damage and was sentenced to a community order at High Peak Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

At 7.30pm on July 15, the 20-year-old, of Fairfield Road, visited his parents in New Mills. The court heard he was “mithering” his mother, Louise Shaw, asking if he could send a text to his ex-girlfriend in order to arrange seeing his one-year-old daughter.

Prosecutor John Cooper said when she refused, Derbyshire went into the kitchen caused £180 of damage to the wall, the worktop and plates and cups.

The following day, Derbyshire returned to the property at 3.50pm. He kicked the front door and pushed over his dad’s Kawasaki motorbike, causing £400 of damage.

Carina Lyons, defending, said her client suffered from dyslexia and dyspraxia and could not recall what had happened.

Chairman of the Bench Gerry Tootell sentenced Derbyshire to a 12-month supervision requirement, 40 hours unpaid work and ordered him to pay a £60 victim surcharge.
