In a tense finish, 13-year-old Fred Smith hit the winning runs in the final over, bowled by pace veteran Rob Hawley.

The celebrations came after an open day at the club, on Park Road, on Saturday.

Chairman Neil Skitt said: “A big thank you to everyone who supported Buxton Cricket Club during the weekend. Everyone who came along for the first time commented on how beautiful our two cricket grounds are and they were really impressed at how family friendly our club is.

“That’s really important for us as a club. We are a community club and we need our community’s support to continue to flourish. Hopefully the new people we met over the weekend will tell their family and friends about us and encourage them to come along too.

“Unfortunately the Kwik Cricket between parents and juniors had to be cancelled due to the weather on Saturday, but an excellent turnout out later in the day at a barbecue and quiz raised £750 for club funds.”

Andrew Bingham said: “I want to congratulate Buxton Cricket Club on all their hard work in developing the second ground. It’s a fantastic place to play cricket.”
