Brave Staveley woman fighting cancer organising charity night

Racheal Griffiths, 31, of Pullman Close, was diagnosed with cervical cancer in September last year.

Since then the mum-of-one has undergone treatment and is now waiting to find out if it has been successful.

She said: “I have done the worrying and crying but now I am quite positive.

“I have had a lot of rough days but I have met some lovely people along the way and I want to give something back.”

Racheal, who has a 14-year-old daughter called Jessica, was diagnosed after going for a smear test.

She has undergone chemotherapy and radiotherapy and is now back at work as a cleaner and a steward at Chesterfield Football Club.

Talking about her diagnosis, she said: “It was awful. It was two weeks of hell after that. It was a shock to the system. There were a lot of things going through my mind.”

“To be honest I have given up on dwelling and worrying and I am just getting on with it now.”

Racheal is organising the Charity Ladies’ Night with her sister Annmarie Thorpe.

It will take place at Harleys Bar in Staveley on March 31 from 7pm. All funds will be donated to Sheffield’s Weston Park Hospital and Macmillan.
