B&Q Somercotes to close on Saturday

The B&Q store in Somercotes is due to close down on Saturday, the News has learned.

The store, which is located in Nottingham Road, is one of six stores to shut across the UK and Ireland.

A B&Q spokesperson said: “Following the move, B&Q will continue to serve customers in the local area at its nearby Eastwood and Sutton-in-Ashfield stores, which are both approximately six miles away.”

They added: “B&Q is focusing on redeploying as many colleagues as possible at nearby B&Q stores as well as elsewhere in the Kingfisher Group.

“At this stage, there are no future plans to develop another B&Q store in the area.”

The spokesperson would not confirm how many jobs were being lost due to the closure.

In March, the DIY giant announced six of its 60 stores will close in the UK and Ireland over the next two years.

The changes were announced as the company posted a 7.5 per cent drop in annual profits to £675 million in the year to January 31.
