The Air Ambulance and an EMAS doctor were also called to the scene.

Rescuers transferred him to a stretcher and carried him to a helicopter. He was then flown to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham for further treatment.

Owing to the good weather, crowds flock to the popular tourist spot over the holiday period and several members of the public, including an off-duty fireman, assisted the boy and his family whilst the awaiting the emergency services.

This was the third time in just 16 days that the team have been called to incidents in Dovedale and members had been holding a fundraising day at the scene just the day before as part of the annual Mountain and Cave Rescue Awareness weekend.
