Bowls club agrees takeover

A bowls club could get financial support from the council at the start of a new 25–year lease.

Matlock Park Bowls Club has agreed to take over the maintenance of the bowling green and pavilion in Hall Leys Park.

In return over the next four years, the club, which has more than 50 members, could receive an annual grant from Derbyshire Dales District Council starting at £6,000 a year and reducing by £1,000 each year to a final £3,000 in 2017/18.

In a meeting of the council’s Corporate Committee today (Thursday), councillors will be asked to give the club a new 25–year lease that requires the club to maintain the green to a good standard.

Non–club members will continue to be able to use the green.
