Belper ready to defend Great British High Street crown

Belper was crowned the winner of the ‘Market Town’ category and also took the ultimate ‘Winner of Winners’ award - beating over 130 entries from across the country during the 2014 instalment.

Belper Town Council confirmed: “Belper will be entering the Great British High Street competition and we are definitely going to try and keep our title ‘Overall Winner of the Best High Street in Britain’ and ‘Best Market Town’.

“The application process for 2014 entrants has been amended and we have been allowed to and add supplementary information and new images.

“We don’t want to release any new information included in this year’s application, but we have a couple of new projects to add to the application.”

The judges, who visited last October, were taken on a whistle-stop tour to see what makes Belper so special and friendly.

They were particularly impressed with the scale of involvement and collaboration from the community and local businesses.
