Belper man to help aid charity

A kind-hearted Belper volunteer David Meredith has signed up to join first aid charity St John Ambulance.

The charity has been looking for local marathon runners to join its team at this year’s Virgin Money London Marathon on April 24.

David, 51, will join a 240-strong team to support the event.
He said: “I’m running to support a worthy cause. I have attended many sporting events in the past and have seen St John Ambulance volunteers in action and know how valuable this service is to the community.

“My daughter’s boyfriend is an active volunteer with the charity and has offered to help me with the fundraising.

“I am looking forward to being part of this event and at the same time raising money for a valuable cause, reaching out to all areas of the community. I ran the Edinburgh Marathon in 2014 and raised £500 for an overseas charity - the Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation in Vietnam.”

The first aid charity hopes that anyone who won a place in the ballot, without choosing a charity to support, will now put their best foot forward to fundraise for St John Ambulance whose volunteers help thousands finish the race each year.

Whether they’re one of the lucky ballot place holders or are among the 100,000 people who failed to gain a ballot place, runners can apply to become part of team St John Ambulance. The charity still has spaces available. You can register until January 31. For more email [email protected].
