Belper Town Mayor Dan Booth said: “This approval is very positive.
“The public seem to support this new store. It will improve the look of the site and will also create new jobs.”
He added: “Like a lot of other Belper residents, if you want to go to Aldi you have to go out of town, so having one in town will be great.

An Aldi spokesperson said they were delighted the application had been approved.
They said: “We are committed to investing in the town... this site is ideally located for us to increase our offering to the people of Belper.”
