Ashover residents go potty over revamp

The public loos, in the heart of the village, are to be renovated and upgraded at a cost of almost £27,000 to provide modern facilities for both able-bodied users and those with disabilities, a baby-changing area, and a completely new information point for people visiting the area.

The refurbishment has been made possible by a substantial donation of more than £22,000 by Viridor Credits under the Landfill Communities Fund, and financial assistance of £2,453 from Ashover Parish Council and £2253 from Ashover Primary Care Trust.

Work is due to start shortly and is expected to last around eight weeks. The building will be given new doors, windows, cubicles, electrical fittings, frost-proof sanitary ware, slip-proof tiled floors, tiled walls and improved insulation.

The old redundant telephone kiosk in the small room at the front of the building will be turned into an information point featuring village attractions, and will include maps and details of local walks.

Parish Council Chairman Ed Willmot said: “We are extremely grateful to Viridor for its generous donation and to the Primary Care Trust who recognize the value of the village conveniences which are much appreciated by visitors, tradespeople and villagers as well.”
