A woman whose dog bit four people has been banned from keeping the animals for 10 years.

Heather Macdonald allowed her German shorthaired pointer to run off the lead along the Blackwell Trail, near Alfreton.

The animal bit three women and a man, who had been walking along the trail on separate occasions between January and May.

Macdonald, of Alfreton Road, was arrested and charged with four counts of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control in a public place and causing injury.

The 63-year-old admitted the charges and was sentenced to three months in prison, suspended for 18 months, at Derby Crown Court on Thursday, December 18.

She was also banned from keeping a dog for 10 years and ordered to pay compensation to each of the victims.

The dog has been kept in kennels since June.
