Alfreton man charged with Ripley robbery

A man has been charged in connection with an attempted robbery and a forced entry in Ripley.

Derbyshire Constabulary stated that around 10.15pm, on Friday, April 4, a 26-year-old woman was walking along Church Street in the town centre when a man allegedly grabbed her and attempted to steal her mobile phone.

Police said a member of the public intervened and the alleged offender ran away.

At around 11pm a man knocked on the door of a house on Padley Close, Ripley, according to police, and as the occupant started to open the door the man allegedly tried to force his way in but was unsuccessful.

Scott Riddell, 31, of Nottingham Road, Alfreton, was charged with attempted robbery and the use of violence to secure entry to premises.

Mr Riddell appeared before magistrates in Chesterfield on Monday, April 7, and was remanded in custody to appear at Derby Crown Court later this month.
