100-year-old man confronted by burglar in his Derbyshire home

The centenarian was watching TV at his house on Bostocks Lane, Risley, sometime between 7pm and 8pm on Saturday night when he saw a man in the doorway.

The intruder told the victim he was looking for his cat and the homeowner challenged him, escorting him out of the back door.

The man later realised a bedroom window had been forced open and the room searched, although nothing was taken.

The offender is described as white, 5ft 11ins tall, slim and his mid-20s. He wore a navy blue hooded jacked with the hood up and blue trousers.

When officers began making inquiries in the area, a woman living on Derby Road checked her house and found her fence and gate had been smashed and someone had tried to force open her conservatory window.

Investigating officer DC Donna Goodwin said: “I want to make residents aware of these crimes and ask them to be vigilant. Make sure your home is secure and call police if you see any suspicious people or vehicles in the area.”
