A new Chesterfield business is leading the way in catering for dog owners who love to splash the cash on birthday gifts.

Barkworthy Dog Emporium stocks luxury toys, deli treats like Barkwell tarts, birthday bandanas and hats to pamper pets on the big day.

Tony Foster said: “People are drawn to the different and unusual products like the imported luxury parody toys (Fursace, Chewy Vuitton etc), artisan bakery treats, handmade collars and birthday hampers for their dogs.”

Owners are also keen to buy a gift for themselves at the shop in Theatre Yard. Tony said: “The pet portraits have also proved popular with four commissions taken in the first week. Also the personalised mugs with pets’ images printed on are proving popular.”

The average owner will spend £26 on their dog’s birthday and one in three celebrate their pet’s birthday on a regular basis, according to a survey by One4all gift cards.
