9. Hardwick Hall
Hardwick Hall is renowned for having more glass than wall, its eye-catching windows increasing in size from the ground upwards. The hall was built in the late 16th century for Bess of Hardwick, the second richest woman in England after the Queen. The last surviving railway roundhouse with an operational turntable in the United Kingdom, the Barrow Hill Engine Shed boasts a fine collection of steam and diesel locomotives, making it the ideal location for anyone interested in railways.
