Stunning picture of snow-covered Derbyshire village wins praise in international competition

A stunning image of a snow-covered Derbyshire village has won acclaim from judges at an international photo competition.

Ashley Franklin was also commended for his panorama picture of the village of Milford, covered in a blanket of snow in the Society of International Nature and Wildlife Photographers' Winterscapes photo competition.

He said: "This image will be included in the first ever photo book of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site, to be published next year.

"It will be the 250th anniversary of Sir Richard Arkwright building the world’s first water-powered cotton mill, which also saw the start of the factory system, making this World Heritage Site one of the most significant on Earth.
