I’ve lived in Derbyshire for several years and have been lucky enough to discover beautiful spots in every corner of the county.
Whether you’re planning a first visit to the Peak District, or looking to explore the scenic countryside on your doorstep, these are some of the best places that need to feature at the top of your list this summer.

9. Peveril Castle and the ‘Devil’s Arse’
The Peak Cavern can be found deep in the gorge below Peveril Castle at Castleton - and is known colloquially as the Devil’s Arse. Photo: jason chadwick

10. Belper River Gardens
Belper’s River Gardens are perfect for a gentle stroll in scenic surroundings - and you can visit one of Belper’s many great pubs afterwards. Photo: Brian Eyre

11. Padley Gorge and Surprise View
Arriving at Grindleford Station, walkers can follow Padley Gorge up onto the moors, before taking in the scenery at Surprise View and looping back round to the station. The walk can also be combined with a visit to Padley Chapel, a Grade I listed building located at the site where the ‘Padley Martyrs’ - two Catholic priests who were executed for treason - were discovered in 1588. 12. Derwent Dam
It is certainly an impressive sight when the water cascades over the Derwent Dam - and is the perfect place to stop towards the end of a scenic circular route around Ladybower Reservoir. Photo: Tom Hardwick
