Adventurous Derbyshire family love their 'second home on wheels'

The Lynn family relax in their 'second home on wheels'.

But when the pandemic struck, Jay and Jenny Lynn and their sons Arthur, 7, and Ezra, 6, realised that their adventures would have to be much closer to home.

Jenny said: “We were one of the many families who jumped on the Covid van-wagon when we realised that travel was changed for the forseeable future. VWs were out of our budget, but we came across a four-wheel drive Bongo camper on eBay for £7k and it was perfect for us; it already had the rock and roll bed installed as well as the side conversion. All it needed was a lick of paint inside, some Moroccan vinyl tiles and a couple of little mechanical tweaks that Bongo Spares fixed up for us.

"Our Bongo camper is our second home on wheels and in him we can fit everything we need. We absolutely love the adventures we have in him and have just returned from a six-week road trip in France.

"As we live in the Peak District, we don’t really holiday here. But almost every weekend we are out hiking in the hills as a family, or if not, we’re on our bikes. We especially love walking along one of the Edges to enjoy those spectacular views (favourites are Baslow Edge and Stanage Edge).”

Jenny, 40, is a travel blogger and content creator. She runs Peak District Kids (the go-to website for families planning adventures in the National Park) and shares her family’s travel adventures and tips over at TraveLynn Family.

Jenny said: "I sometimes take the Bongo to a viewpoint to sit and work for the day! Makes a change from being at my desk.”

The Peak District ranks at number five in the top 50 most popular viewpoints for van enthusiasts across the United Kingdom. The #vanlife viewpoints study, compiled by car and van leasing provider Nationwide Vehicle Contracts.

According to the findings, the upland area of the Peak District has a Google rating of 4.8 and a phenomenal 1,654,080 Instagram hashtags. Petrol is 130p per litre in the region, putting its final viewpoint score at 88.80 out of 100.

Mourne Mountains in County Down, Northern Ireland, topped the table by scoring maximum marks.
