Stunning pictures show inside of derelict Chesterfield homes with a sad history

Urban explorer Lost Places & Forgotten Faces has shared the images on his Facebook page, taken inside 128-130 Chatsworth Road, next to the Alma Inn, and further along in a row of derelict homes next to The Tap House pub at number 318.

The buildings next to The Tap House hit the headlines in 2016, when graffiti artist The Urban Badger added some designs and a thought-provoking poem to the building.

And number 128-130 sadly hit the headlines when the body of 41-year-old David Fuller, a homeless man, was found in the property on Boxing Day 2018, with the building having lain derelict for a number of years.

The explorer said: “Since the incident, the houses on Chatsworth Road have been visited regularly by explorers, to the point where most of them have now been secured.”

Describing his visit, he said: “There isn't too much to see as some of the properties have been recently re-boarded, and some are very overgrown.

“Inside, they have been completely stripped, and are severely dilapidated.”

The buildings at 324-328 had been earmarked for demolition in a planning application submitted to Chesterfield Council in 2012 seeking permission to develop the site, including the neighbouring Walton Works.

However, the application was “disposed of” by the council due to a lack of progress.

A further application to develop Walton Works has been approved and the developer is continuing with its plans.
