The Hardwick Inn is a centuries-old country pub, which can be found just outside the sprawling Hardwick Park estate. This is home to Hardwick Hall – an Elizabethan country house that was built in the 1500s and remains a popular tourist attraction.
The Derbyshire Times was invited to visit and learn more about the history of the pub and an upcoming major milestone – and these photos show what you can expect from the Hardwick Inn.

9. Continuing the family legacy
Stuart said: “Our business model is that we’re looking forward to the next generation taking over. We want our daughters to continue the generational legacy. I think when you’re not in business to get rich, move on and just sell the business, that’s the important bit - there’s a sincerity about keeping it going in the family for as long as possible.” Photo: Brian Eyre

10. Major milestone approaching
Stuart said: “We’re on the cusp of the 100 year anniversary of the family running the pub. We’re looking forward to 2028 and figuring out what we’re doing for that - it will be quite exciting.” Photo: Brian Eyre

11. National Trust
Stuart said: “The pub was originally part of the Chatsworth Estate, before the estate was sold to the National Trust in 1958. We’re left to run under our own autonomy and carry on with things here.” Photo: Brian Eyre

12. Seasonal produce evenings
Stuart said: “Every month we’ll do a special seasonal produce evening. In November we’ll have a game-based menu, and we’ll let our chefs show off and do a seven-course tasting menu.” Photo: Brian Eyre
