Derbyshire deli is an Aladdin’s Cave for foodie lovers

As someone who enjoys great food (some would say a little too much), one of my favourite shops to mooch around is a good delicatessen.

When I say good - I mean a delicatessen that exudes warmth and passion from the moment you walk in. A deli where the staff have time to enthuse and engage with you about the products they’re selling.

The Lambton Larder in Bakewell is one such delicatessen. This small but mighty deli and cafe offers the finest artisan produce that would grace even the most discerning food lover’s cupboards.

At The Lambton Larder you’ll find at the helm Alice and Blake, co-owners of this delicious foodie temple of delights. Established in 2018, their delectable delicatessen business has gone from strength to strength, providing a vast array of cured meats, cheeses, olive oils, beers, gins and wines along with many other carefully selected gourmet products. It’s fast becoming a Bakewell food institution.

Alice Unwin, who also manages the deli on a day to day basis, has always worked within the food and hospitality industry. She is a self-confessed foodie who says that it is her own love of good food that drove her passion to open the deli in the first place.

“I just wanted to share my food passion with other people. They always say that if you love what you do as a job, then it doesn’t feel like work at all, and that’s exactly how I feel when I walk through the doors of the deli each day. Having worked in hospitality all my life, I understand the importance of good customer service. We make time to chat to our customers and that gives us the opportunity to introduce people to new products and to try new things.”

The delicatessen is located on Rutland Square, in the heart of Bakewell, and provides a cafe service too. You can sit and watch the world go by whilst eating a homemade salad, a hearty pie (try the Saag Aloo flavour for something a bit different) or an irresistible sweet Kronut to accompany your daily coffee.

Seeing all the products beautifully arranged on the shelves and counters is a little bit like entering an Aladdin’s Cave. There are so many lovely products on the shelves and counters, beautifully packaged into foodie works of art.

It’s no wonder that one of their most popular products/services is their bespoke hampers. You can select whatever you want to go into your hamper, whether it’s for a special day (Mother’s/Father’s day) or for a wonderful Christmas gift. Knowing that someone has taken the time to choose each of the items in a hamper, is surely a gift in itself don’t you think?

Alice explains, “We couldn’t think of a better location for our delicatessen. Not only is Derbyshire one of the most beautiful places in the UK, it also has some of the best food produce available. We really enjoy working alongside our Derbyshire suppliers, and being able to showcase their products. We are so lucky - we get to taste it all; and can call it work!”

I’m jealous.
