Climbing expertshares tales ofhigh adventure

Rock climber and mountaineer Catherine Destivelle will present photos and stories from her long and active career as part of Buxton Advture Festival.

She began bouldering, climbing and alpinism (a form of mountaineeering which involves fast and slow climbs) when she was 12.

Throughout her teens she spent much of her time discovering new locations and feats all over France and developed skills and techniques.

Catherine started her full-time career in rock and mountain climbing in 1985 when she entered competitions and appeared in films and TV as a stuntwoman.

Her expeditions include climbing the south-west face of Shishapangma in Tibet, the Losar icefall near Namche Bazaar in Nepal and the first ascent of ‘Peak 4111’ in the Ellsworth Mountains of Antarctica.

Now a writer and publisher of books on mountaineering and alpinism, Catherine is one of the world’s leading authorities on climbing.

She will present From Bouldering to Mountaineering at Buxton’s Pavilion Arts Centre on February 24, at 7.30pm.
