Chesterfield music-lover Linda Biggs recounts growing up in the swinging 60s and a trip to London to watch Ready, Steady Go

Chesterfield woman Linda Biggs remembers the 1950s and 1960s well and the vibrant music scene in the town with some real star names making an appearance.

She was also lucky enough to pay a trip to London to see popular music show Ready, Steady Go being recorded while visiting a friend in London.

She said: “We were told to gather round and dance near the platform of the artist performing at the time, look happy and applaud. The cameras were all over the place and moved around the room, so if you were not paying attention you were likely to get run over or walloped at the side of the head by a rotating camera. I remember seeing The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds, and The Kinks. It was the summer 1965.

Her story appears in full can be read in ‘Dirty Stop Out’s Guide to 1960s Chesterfield’ by Pete Dodd.

Take a look at these retro pictures of Linda in the swinging 60s and some of the music acts that graced the town back then.
