20. Britain 's worst weather for a Century
The worst weather conditions for a hunred years was experienced throughout the country in January, 1940. In the North of England some amazing scenes were to be witnessed - cars were abandoned in deep snow drifts and at places the snow was so deep that it nearly reached up to the roofs of the houses in outlying districts. An amazing picture from Glossop. This snowdrift completely covered the ground floor windows and door of a house. Photo: Hulton Archive
